i Tunes Radio, Apple’s soon–to–be–revamped station for iOS, will apparently feature a string of major names as part of its attempt to gain traction over rivals such as Spotify.
According to the New York Post, Apple is in talks to sign Drake, Pharrell and David Guetta as guest DJs for iTunes Radio. The signings would follow Zane Lowe, who has joined Apple from the BBC.
The new–look iTunes Radio is thought to form part of the much-discussed, updated Apple Music app, which is set to be officially unveiled at its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) next week.It’s believed that rather than offering an algorithm to serve up music, Apple is plotting a manned radio station aimed at enticing users from Spotify and Pandora.
Apple is also set to reveal its new music streaming service at WWDC. Word is that as well as offering users a free three-month trial, it also wants to get the music rights free from record labels for that period.
That would mean Apple didn’t lose money having to pay for rights while users took their new service for a spin. Apparently, record labels are holding out on the astonishing request.
The service, based on Beats Music which Apple acquired last year, is aimed at improving Apple’s standing in the music business after iTunes sales started to slide.
