HomeKit, Apple’s aeons–in–the–making app for controlling in–home tech, will work with Apple TV and Siri on iOS devices, it has been confirmed.
A new document, which was published on Apple’s website and seemingly rubber-stamps previous rumours about the app, details exactly how HomeKit products will work.When out of the home, you’ll be able to use Siri to remotely control compatible products, as long as you have a third-generation or later Apple TV with software version 7.
Talk of Apple’s plans for HomeKit has been bubbling away in recent weeks as the company’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) edges closer. That even starts on Monday 8th June in San Francisco.
Apple also revealed a list of new products that will work with HomeKit, from the likes of EcoBee, Elgato and Lutron.
HomeKit–packing smart thermostats, smart plugs and remote controlled lighting systems are all set to launch later this month.
HomeKit marks Apple’s move into the world of the smart home and the so–called internet of things.
It means you’ll be able to do everything from control security while on holiday to firing up the kettle from your phone just before you walk through the door.
