Quad-play telecoms provider EE threw something of a curveball at the tech sector this week, with the launch of its 4G Action Cam.

Aimed at photobombing its way into a market where GoPro rules the roost, the Action Cam’s big sell is that it features a built-in 4G connection so you can livestream video footage.

Video recording is in lush1080HD, but if you’re broadcasting live you’ll have to make do with 720p.

Standard definition is an option too, if you’re after something a bit grainier. Choose SD and you’ll also get a higher frame rate for capturing fast moving subjects or adventure sports.

The Action Cam's also home to a 13-megapixel camera for still images, so you can leave your phone behind while you take snaps of your BROs huffing and puffing as you schlep your way round a Tough Mudder assault course.

So is the Action Cam about to unseat GoPro from pole position in the action-cam market? And is EE right to think that we need 4G-enabled cameras in our lives?
