Google has announced it’s bringing its real–time transport information tools to the UK, as part of the latest update to its Maps software.

The feature, which has been available in select US cities for some time, shows you up–to–the–minute travel information, such as delays and cancellations.

It also gives you the inside line on when the next train or bus is due to arrive, should you have missed the first one on the list.

The Big G has added more than 25 new real–time partners in the UK too, meaning you’ll be able to get detailed transport information in pretty much any major town or city across the country.

It’s also doing the same in the Netherlands, Budapest, Chicago, San Francisco and Seattle.

Google says it now has schedules for over 2.5 million train, bus and ferry stations around the world.

This update parks Google’s tanks on CityMapper’s lawn, in what looks very much like a direct challenge to the self-proclaimed 'ultimate transport app'.

The latter has become the go–to app for savvy smartphone users looking to get from A to B in the fastest way possible.
